What is a serum and how does it work?
Light texture and rich composition - the serum combines unique caring properties that are worth using regardless of skin type. Especially in winter, when the skin is exposed to many external factors. So how to choose the right cosmetics and use it?
What is serum?
The serum is an intensive product with concentrated active ingredients. For this reason, it acts more strongly than creams, while enhancing their action. It is widely believed that the skin can get used to the action of the serum and thus "lazy". This is a myth, and properly selected cosmetics can be used every day, choosing a product depending on the changing needs of the skin.
The advantage of whey is its consistency. The lightweight formula can be in the form of an oil (oily serum), emulsion, cream (oily water serum) or gel (watery serum). In the case of dry skin, you can try a serum with an oily formula, and in the case of skin prone to oiliness, it is better to use products in the form of a gel or emulsion.
Serum types
There are many different types of serums that can be used on more than just mature skin. It all depends on the problems that the skin faces, and they can affect even young skin. Dryness, earthiness, wrinkles or pigmentation - for each of these conditions, you can find the right cosmetic product that will help you deal with them more efficiently and quickly.
When choosing a serum, like any cosmetic product, read its composition. It should contain components such as vegetable oils, hydrolates, i.e. flower waters, plant extracts, as well as vitamins (the most popular are strengthening vitamin E and brightening vitamin C), hyaluronic acid and ingredients that protect the skin from pollution. As a rule, the serum has a light consistency, which should not be comedogenic. However, it is worth paying attention to whether the composition of the selected cosmetic product does not contain mineral oils, silicones or paraffins, and in the case of skin with a tendency to oiliness - oils.
How to use serum?
As with any cream, regularity is important. The systematic use of serum in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations is the basis for successful therapy. Apply the serum to a well-cleansed and toned face. If we have a moment to accelerate its absorption and at the same time stimulate blood circulation, we can combine the application of a cosmetic product with a roller massage or a Gua Sha roller. The applied serum should not leave a sticky feeling, so 2-3 drops are enough. A larger dose does not mean a stronger effect, but can only leave a noticeable sticky film on the skin.
Why is it necessary to use a cream after a serum?
Since a serum is highly concentrated and more powerful than a cream, why are we combining these two beauty products? There are two reasons. Firstly, the serum complements the effect of the cream and enhances its effect. In addition, the application of the cream protects the active ingredients contained in the serum from evaporating too quickly, prolonging its action. In the case of water-based products, a cream is mandatory so as not to get the opposite effect, i.e. dehydration of the epidermis.
Is serum an essential part of daily care? Absolutely yes. Properly selected product allows you to optimally respond to the needs of the skin.
