Enlarged pores - causes

The problem of enlarged pores is usually faced by owners of oily and combination skin. This is due to the fact that excess sebum, produced along with pollution, accumulates in the pores. There are also exfoliated cells of the epidermis. A mixture of these substances forms a black dot that clogs the pore openings. The resulting acne stretches the tubule of the sebaceous gland. As a result, round cavities are formed in the skin, visible to the naked eye, i.e. enlarged pores.

The most visible pores are most often found in the so-called T-zone, that is, on the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks around the nose. This is due to the activity of the sebaceous glands, which is usually the highest in these areas.

In some people, enlarged pores are a remnant of teenage acne. Their occurrence is also influenced by genetic conditions. Proper skin care is also very important. If neglected, the problem of enlarged pores may appear with age. Another reason is excessive exposure to harmful solar radiation. This leads to a loss of collagen and elastin, causing the skin to stretch and the pores to become more visible.

Proper skin care for enlarged pores

The basis of skin care is its thorough cleansing, preferably in two stages. The first step is to remove makeup with micellar water or hydrophilic oil. After removing makeup, wash your face with a cleansing gel. It is best to wash your face with warm or even cool water, which will narrow the enlarged pores.

The second stage is skin toning. This is a must-have step in skincare for all skin types and should not be skipped. Toner restores skin balance. If it contains the right ingredients, it will effectively close enlarged pores. Acid toners work well for people with this problem. These are mainly fruit acids of low concentration. Thanks to this, cosmetics are safe for home use, and at the same time have a positive effect on the skin. Reduces sebum production, brightens age spots, prevents imperfections and tightens pores. It also helps reduce the visibility of acne scars.

After toning, it's time for the cream. During the day, you can successfully use a cream that normalizes the secretion of sebum. It will prevent unsightly shine of the skin and the formation of imperfections. If there are no problems with excessive oiliness of the skin, it is best to choose a regular moisturizer. It is worth paying attention to whether it contains oils that can overload the skin. A good choice would be a light product enriched with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, white tea extract or aloe vera. Even in the case of oily skin, you should not overdo it with exfoliating cosmetics. Therefore, at night it is good to choose a cream of a thicker consistency that will nourish and moisturize the skin.

In the case of enlarged pores, regular exfoliation is a very important element of care. Removes dead skin, helps to get rid of blackheads and prevents the formation of new ones. It also improves blood circulation and reduces pigmentation. It is best to exfoliate 1-2 times a week. More frequent use may lead to irritation, so the frequency of use should be adjusted according to skin type. The mask can be used after peeling. To do this, it is worth considering what the skin needs at the moment. If you need extra cleansing, you can use clay masks. If you do not feel the need for this, it is better to use a moisturizing mask with hyaluronic acid, aloe extract or rose petals.

What to avoid with enlarged pores?

Sunburn without sun protection. As mentioned above, excessive exposure to solar radiation leads to weakening of the skin and deterioration of its appearance. Therefore, you should not sunbathe often and you should remember about creams with a high level of sun protection.

Solarium use. Just like tanning in the sun, frequent tanning bed use can make pores more visible.

Excessive heating of the face. We are talking about the frequent use of the sauna.

Excessive makeup. Too much makeup never looks good. In the case of enlarged pores, this can additionally lead to their blockage. This leads to blackheads and pimples.

Applying brightening cosmetics to enlarged pores. The highlighter makes the skin fresh and radiant. However, when applied to enlarged pores, it strongly emphasizes them, which looks unsightly.

Using skin care products with a too thick consistency. These products often clog pores and weigh down oily skin.

Dehydration of the skin. This is a very common mistake for people with oily and combination skin. By all means, they try to reduce the amount of sebum by using strong cleansing cosmetics. This leads to dry skin. The skin, wanting to protect itself, produces even more sebum. As a result, acne appears. Such products should be used sparingly, not forgetting to moisturize the skin.
