What is an essence and should I use it?

Essence is a cosmetic product that is considered a must-have step in Korean skincare. It is also not a toner or serum. Cosmetic essences are quite difficult to characterize as they are a combination of all the above products in one.

Essences have a light serum-like texture and, due to their lower molecular weight than other cosmetic products, penetrate deeper into the skin. Simply put, the essence is mainly used to enhance the action of all other products used in daily skin care.

Essences contain concentrated moisturizing ingredients that promote skin repair and cell turnover. The main function of the essence is to moisturize the skin and prepare it for receiving the active ingredients of the serum or cream.
